I put together and early picnic themed birthday party for my son’s 15th birthday and today I’m sharing the details with you. I’m going to make it very easy for you to recreate the recipe or decorations from this party.
First off, the sandwiches were absolutely and amazing and many of the decorations where made using craft materials.
There are a lot of pictures so I’m going to jump right in here and get started.
When entertaining, I like to incorporate a mix of DIY decor and semi homemade foods. For this picnic themed party, I wanted finger foods. I didn’t have everything I needed so I went to Walmart to pick a few things including the newly repackaged Kraft dips.
I bought Kraft French Onion dip in the new packaging to use in my recipe, but you could use Kraft Bacon Cheddar or Kraft Green Onion dip instead.
Bacon & Cheddar Chicken Sliders
To make the bacon and cheddar sliders I start with thick cut bacon cooked in the oven until crispy.

Now that I’ve got you covered on food. Let me talk about the decorations. My three simple decorations from this party are:
- mini cupcake stands
- sandwich and cupcake flags
- bottle candy bottle wrappers
I spray painted both pieces and hot glued them together.
Sandwich/Cupcake Flags
For the snack and sandwich flags, I used a piece of gingham craft paper and cut strips in the length I wanted for my flags. Next I cut either a V shape at one end facing either left or right depending on whether I wanted one or two points on the flag.
I used glue to attach them to toothpicks before inserting them in my food.
Treat/Cup Wrappers
Using the same gingham craft paper, I cut longer strips to wrap around these cute bottles I found at the craft store.
My daughter wouldn’t let me leave without getting them for our sweet treats.
Chips & Dip Cups
The last finger food on our menu were simple chips and dip. These little cups were filled with chips and Kraft French Onion dip.
My picnic party ideas are easy to recreate so when you do, share them with me on instagram by tagging @apronsandstilletos in your picture.

I think the star is the slider itself, but you did such a great job with everything else in the display too. You always do!
Everything looks delicious, especially the sliders. I have to make this.
These sliders look so good. I really like that they can be eaten on the go and the rich cheeses and flavors that they are made with.
