So it’s been a little over a month since I installed my micro locs and I am truly happy with my decision. My journey started out with two strand twist that I later interlocked using the tool and method I talk about in my video.
I did some research on the many options available for loc’ing hair and decided to go with the simplest for me and also least expensive.
The only cost was what I paid for the loc’ing tool and some oil I bought to use as a daily moisturizer. That’s it!
The entire installation process was divided between installing the mini two strand twist and then interlocking.
After installing the twists and wearing them for a week I knew I would be interlocking to secure the twists long term.
The interlocking process was actually therapeutic which you’ll hear me say in my video. It was as relaxing as crocheting which I did a lot of back in the day, only I had to hold my arms up to interlock. When my arms got a little tired I’d just rest and restart.
If I had to give any advice on going the DIY route it would be to take your time. I did that by breaking the process down over two to three different days.
Day one included installing the mini twist which I wore for a few days to see if I liked them. After deciding I loved them, I realized I wanted to make some twist smaller. So day two, I’d say, was spent identifying larger twists and dividing them into more twists.
After that was done, I left my hair alone for another week while I researched the best tool for interlocking. Once I made a decision, I ordered it and got it the next day.
I immediately tested it out and was happy with it so I interlocked my hair. My method was to divide my locs into square sections and working one section at a time. I started at about 8pm and finished at about midnight and went to be so happy!
If you are a visual person you’ll definitely want to watch my video, but before that let me show you how my twist look after one month.
I plan on sharing my journey here and on YouTube so subscribe to my newsletter and channel if you want to follow along.
