My husband and I can drink a fruit smoothie every day and not get tired. In fact, I even have my children loving the smoothie creations I come up with. I’ve learned that with right combination of yogurt and fruit, I could get them to like smoothies.

Now that they like them, I want to get even more smoothies on our menu starting with some fun smoothie bowls. I ordered a book with over 100 smoothie bowl recipes and let the kids pick out their favorites. Using their ideas, I came up with a Yogurt and Fruit Smoothie Bowl perfect for breakfast on the deck or patio.

Instead of using yogurt from a tub and fresh fruit, I went with frozen ingredients. Frozen ingredients make for the best smoothie bowls because it keeps them cold and creamy longer.

I used Outshine® Strawberry yogurt bars and for the fruit, Outshine® fruit and veggie bars. They’re both made with real fruit, veggies and yogurt. Outshine® makes an array of frozen bars, with no artificial flavors, that are perfect for smoothie bowls.

In the mornings, the kids can grab a yogurt bar, a fruit and veggie bar flavor of their choice and create the base of their smoothie bowl.

The Outshine® fruit and veggies bar flavors are tangerine medley, blueberry medley, peach mango medley and strawberry rhubarb. Don’t let the fruity names fool you though. The bars have carrot juice, beet juice and other yummy veggies that help with flavor and color.

In the mornings, all I have to do is make sure the food processor is on the counter so we can all create our individual smoothie bowls.

Whether using Outshine® bars or similar ingredients, frozen works best for getting a smooth and creamy texture. I like the ease of the frozen bars and the fact the they have no GMO, no artificial colors or flavors, no high fructose corn syrup plus they’re gluten and fat free. Being easy to use and full of good ingredients works for me.

Having a new breakfast on our menu is so exciting and it’s perfect to eat at the dining table, on the patio, on the deck or on the grass in the backyard.

INGREDIENTS

  • (1) Outshine® Simply Yogurt bar
  • (1) Outshine® fruit and veggies bar
  • (1) frozen banana
  • 1/4 cup of milk or vanilla almond milk

TOPPINGS

  • strawberries
  • blueberries
  • whole grain cereal
  • really anything you can imagine!

Add all smoothie ingredients to a blender or food processor and blend until creamy and smooth. You may need to add more milk to get a smooth and creamy consistency.

I like to pour my smoothie into the bowl and pop it in the freezer for a few minutes before adding my fruit. It helps the smoothie bowl stay cold longer. I also place a few frozen pieces of fruit in the bottom of the bowl before pouring in the smoothie. This helps keep the smoothie from melting too fast.

You can top your smoothie with ANYTHING! Right now I’m loving berries and cereal because we always have that on hand. You could also use nuts, chocolate chips, flax seed or sliced bananas. You really can’t go wrong here.

    1. I love smoothies but I never had a smoothie bowl! You are right, when using frozen ingredients, the smoothies are creamier.

    2. Outshine bars are so yummy! We are a bit lazy around here and just eat them on the stick…

    3. I wonder if any Outshine bars are left around here to try this. They're so good that they're usually gobbled up quickly!

    4. The kids would have a great time assembling their own smoothie bowls. There are so many topping options!
