Transitioning 4C Hair | 13 Weeks No Relaxer | Up do Protective Style

Transitioning 4C Hair, No Relaxer, Updo Protective Style, Natural Hair, Co-Wash, Henna

Up do’s and bantu twist outs have been my go-to styles as I transition from relaxed to unrelaxed hair. The first time I went natural as an adult, I did a big chop and cut all of the relaxed hair off.

This time, I’m letting my relaxed hair remain so I can maintain length as my natural hair grows. To style my hair in this simple up do, I start with freshly co-washed hair.

The reason I’ve been mostly co-washing is to keep my relaxed hair from tangling and break off. Co-washing is also the first step to moisturizing my mostly 4C hair. My natural hair pattern are tightly coiled rings similar to the look of the spring you’d find inside a pen. The only to areas of my hair theta have coils any looser are around my hairline and the lower back of my head.

After co-washing my hair, I allow it to air dry to 60 percent, then moisturize it in small sections.

Once it’s completely dry I’m able to style it in this bun. To get this look, I brush all of my hair upward. Then I hold all of the hair in the back up and pin in place. Next, I pull the front section toward the middle and been tucking the hair under until it forms a bun shape, then I pin the hair in place until secure.

This up do and is so perfect for hot days and a good semi-protective style as I transition.
