Germaine and I have been using cash envelopes for over a decade and we absolutely love the control it gives us over our money. I can clearly remember when we decided to start using envelopes to manage our cash. It was around the same time we decided to cancel our credit cards. At the end of every month Germaine and I sit down and create a new budget for the coming month. We do what’s called a zero based budget. We assign a purpose to every dollar of our pay check on paper before the month starts. Whether saving, eliminating debt, paying bills or spending, we decide before we’re paid. I try to spend cash as much as possible and stay within my budget. I find it easier to stick to my budget by keeping my cash organized in and accordion file.
