Super Soft Crochet Washcloth Tutorial + Skin Care Tips for Babies with Allergies

Having children who suffers from Eczema is enough to make a new momma cry. I know because I was that mom. It took a lot of trial and error to figure out the best ways to care for my babies sensitive skin, but once I did, I was able to make better decisions about the products and fabrics I put on them.

If you’re a new mom with a baby who suffers from any type of allergies, you’ll want to print these tips to refer back to them. Having a child with any kind of allergy can be scary. From the allergy testing to everyday allergic reactions, you can begin feeling like the symptoms are holding you hostage. The tips I’m going to share are from my experience and my heart as a mom who knows the struggle.

Avoid over bathing and opt for sponge baths using soft cotton cloths.

Babies don’t get as dirty as toddlers and adults. While we love to give them that nightly bathe before bed, they don’t really need it and it can cause drying of the skin in babies with Eczema.

Instead of a bath every night, try wiping your baby with a warm washcloth followed by a massage with a good cream for oil based moisturizer.

Leave off using scented lotions and soaps on your babies skin.

It’s hard to pass by the sweet smelling baby lotions and to choose the non-scented stuff, but it’s for the best. With Eczema, a babies skin will become irritated and the fragrances and chemicals in the scented stuff can cause burning or irritation.

After wiping your babies skin, massaging in a cream or oil, to seal in moisture. This will make your babies skin feel nice and allow the affected skin to soften and heal.  You can moisturize your babies skin 1-2 times a day using a dye and fragrance free moisturizer.

Dress your baby in soft and preferably organic fabrics.

This one is easy because baby clothes are general light weight and soft. Make sure the clothes are loose enough the let air flow and free from dyes.

You really want to be conscious of what you are putting on your babies skin. If you can’t find dye-free, organic products, consider making your own. I’ll show you how you can make your own baby washcloths at the end of this post.

Use all® free clear detergent to wash your babies clothes.
