Who is the go-to nurse at your house? Who is the one that nurses everyone back to health when they are sick? At my house, that’s my role. I make sure the sick person is taking their medicine on schedule, staying hydrated and eating. I’ve always been prepared when it came to playing nurse, but not when it came to me being the patient.

The medicine cabinet was always well stocked with things the kids needed to get better, but not always things my husband or I needed. As parents, we can be so focused on caring for our little ones that we neglect ourselves. There were many times my husband had to go to the grocery store to get things to soothe a cold. I don’t want you to be like us and wait until you are sick to stock up. Instead, I’m going to show you how we started being more proactive during cold and flu season by preparing ahead.

Now, when the weather starts to get cold, we make sure we have medicine on stock, fresh batteries in the thermometer and anything else we need on hand. Once we gather what we need, we put it in our linen closet. This year I decided to put it all together as a “Soothe Your Sick Cold Care Kit”. This first aid style emergency care box is a fun way to prep for cold and flu season in advance. It includes everything someone needs to nurse themselves back to health. Let me show you how I made my “Soothe Your Sick Cold Care Kit” and I’m hoping it gives you some inspiration to make one for yourself or someone else. A “Soothe Your Sick Cold Care Kit” would be a super nice thing to drop off to a friend or family member.

How to make a Soothe Your Sick Cold Care Kit

1. I started with an empty 14 x 24 inch shipping box and some pretty contact paper. I used this grey Chevron paper I had leftover from lining my bathroom shelves. I covered the entire inside and outside of the box, then filled it with shredded paper. To make the box look more than just pretty and more like a cold care kit, I printed out a first aid image to add to the lid. I printed one for the inside of the box and one for the outside. {Download the First Aid box printable here}Soothe Your Sick Cold Care Kit

2. To make this Sooth Your Sick Cold Care Kit perfect for nursing yourself back to health I include things that care for a cold, nourish the body and make me comfortable day or night.

Nourishment:

I included some Campbell’s® soup perfect for warming me up when I need it most. As the temperature drops or when I’m sick, I crave things that warm me up and bring the comfort of home. I also included Nabisco PREMIUM Soup & Oyster Crackers. Theses are the perfect wellness cracker for upset stomachs, morning sickness, or when you don’t have an appetite but need to eat. These are bite size crackers that don’t make me feel overwhelmed by the thought of eating when I’m sick.

Cold Care:

Fill your box with the medicine designed to tackle the symptoms you experience most during cold and flu season. I’ve included Theraflu Daytime Severe Cold & Cough Powders to help me function through the day. Plus TYLENOL® Day Night Pack caplets designed to relieve painful cold and flu symptoms like coughing, congestion, and sore throat both day and night.

Cold Comfort:

Tea is a staple when I’m sick especially ones infused with natural botanicals. In my box, I included Lipton’s new Bedtime Bliss Caffeine Free Herbal Supplement. The wellness tea is made with Chamomile, Mint, Orange Peels, Lemon Grass, Allspice, Fennel Seed, Chicory Root, Natural Flavors and Chamomile Oil. The herbs used in these teas are blended with essential oils known for their wellness benefits*. Between the aroma and taste, I keep a box in my kitchen whether I’m sick or not.

Once my Soothe Your Sick Cold Care Kit is full, I store it away until I need it. If you’d like to fill your kit with the same items as mine, you can find them all at Kroger in the grocery and pharmacy aisles. Be sure to grab these money saving coupons before you go.
