Many of you have been following my blog for years and know I pride myself in cooking meals at home. On my first blog AProverbsWife.com, I have an extensive archive of frugal, made from scratch meals that I’ve enjoyed making over the years. However, in the last year we’ve become more of an on-the-go family meaning something on the schedule had to be swapped out.
For example, this weekend we hit the gym Saturday morning and afterward, changed the oil in both vehicles. We cooked breakfast around noon, tackled some business stuff and chores before heading out to a late afternoon meeting, then went to church. We picked up takeout for Saturday night and Tyson® Individually Frozen Dinner Kit Four Cheese Chicken & Broccoli Pasta to eat on Sunday.
We already knew Sunday would have us back at church and possibly heading down to the country to see our grandchildren. Our days are a lot busier in terms of time to plan and cook from scratch like before, but that doesn’t mean we don’t want quality meals that actually taste good.
If we’re going to pick up take out or grab something from the grocery store it has to be a trusted brand and something the entire family will eat.
I’ve made my peace with the fact that I’m not going to cook every meal from scratch so sometimes I rely on frozen uncooked meals I can cook at home in minutes, not hours. For example, the Tyson Individually Frozen Dinner Kit we had this weekend could be cooked and on the table in 19-23 minutes. That’s big for me, because I don’t have the same amount of time to focus on slow cooking meals in the oven or crockpot as I used to.
Now let me say this, we’re not big on frozen foods that are processed, however we do look for dinner kits that have uncooked ingredients so we can eliminate unwanted additives.
With Tyson Individually Frozen Dinner Kits we can choose from several varieties like Tyson Individually Frozen Dinner Kit- Four Cheese Chicken & Broccoli Pasta, Tyson Individually Frozen Dinner Kit- Tomato Herb Chicken & Vegetable and Tyson Individually Frozen Dinner Kit – Sweet Chipotle Chicken & Vegetable Hash.
They each have the same quality protein we look for when buying Tyson meats and the vegetables in the kits are picked and frozen at their freshest.
My kids have outgrown chicken nuggets and fish sticks for dinner. They’re teens and crave hearty meals that taste close to something I’d actually make. They are also picky eaters, but they like Tyson Individually Frozen Dinner Kit- Four Cheese Chicken & Broccoli Pasta. I like it because the chicken is uncooked, there are vegetables already in the kit and the starch is included. —The whole meal is in the bag for me. The uncooked Tyson chicken tastes delicious when it’s done, and I can cook it the way my family likes it.
For a little while I felt guilty about all of the eating out and dinner help I was using, but I realize our lives are transitioning and that’s okay. Junior left for college last fall so that was one less person to cook for, plus I began working more. Niyah and Juwan have also matured so much that Germaine and I just enjoy being on the go with them.
With the change in our lifestyle I’ve definitely cut back on cooking every meal but have increased our family time! With two children at home and two adult children living on their own, Germaine and I are splitting our time between parenting the youngest two and being active in the lives of the older two.
Juggling time with the older two requires weekend travel. Essentially, I’ve swapped out some cooking to make time for the people that I love. So, I don’t mind grabbing a pizza, Chinese food or a Tyson Individually Frozen Dinner Kit when I need to. They help me pull together a family meal that’s quick to prepare, easy to get on the table, and delicious for my family.
