The new year is a great time reflect on the past and make plans for the future. My biggest questions as I look toward the next 365 days is, “How I can create more “yes” moments in the New Year?”

The new year will be my year of “yes” when it comes to my three teens, especially my oldest son. He’s leaving for college in the fall and the One Thing Every Parent of a High School Senior Needs to Do, is spend more time with them. I want to soak up as much time with my high school senior before he leaves. Instead of working through spring and summer breaks, while he does his own thing, this year is going to be different. Thanks in part to inspiration from Well Yes!® Soup, I’m making an intentional decision about how I’ll spend my son’s last year at home.

Ever since he started high school it’s been harder to spend time with him. All of his classes are advanced placement classes, so after school he’s studying or doing homework late into the night. He’s bright, hard working. and already has a full scholarship to the University of South Carolina. If he goes there, he’ll still be close to home. But he’s applied to Yale, Harvard, Princeton and MIT which are farther away. Either way, he’ll be living away from home next year so I’m soaking up every moment I can with him before he heads off.

  1. My oldest is a senior too and I am holding her so close this year before she leaves us. It’s really hard to imagine next year without her here every day. I wish time didn’t have to move so fast. #client
