Movie Night Snack Box

Movie nights are a big deal for us. Whether we go to the theater, the drive in, buy or rent a movie to watch at home, we make it special.
We always plan something fun to eat and it’s usually a copycat version of our favorite restaurant foods followed by snacks.
When we go to the theater, we let the kids order snack packs. The packs come with a beverage, candy and popcorn. When at home, I make them a similar version of the theater snack pack.
I’ll show you how to make movie night snack boxes you can use again and again. This week we watched Guardians of the Galaxy.

The kids have wanted to see this since it came out in theaters. I picked up the DVD and some movie night snack box supplies from Walmart.

For this project, you’ll need a cardboard box. Walmart sells mini cardboard boxes for $0.49 on the craft aisle that are the perfect size for this project.

I painted the box white only where it would be visible once filled. I then lined it with some checkered parchment paper I had in my craft supplies.

I also had some striped popcorn boxes from another movie night. I buy these whenever I remember. These were the last ones I had, so I’ll have to pick up some more.

I filled each popcorn box with a bag of microwave popcorn. I use the individual popcorn boxes and bags because it reduces arguments. When my kids share a bowl of popcorn someone always get’s mad.

You can fill your movie night snack box with any kinds of snacks your kids like. I filled mine with crackers, chips and candy.
The last thing I added to their snack box was a Guardians of the Galaxy cup. When Marvel movies come out, I usually get them a cup from the party section at Walmart.

This is a really simple project and once the box is made, it an be used again and again for future movies.
I did add some embellishments to my popcorn box and movie box. The popcorn banner, is just cardstock and I hand wrote the words. I also hand wrote each of my children’s names on their boxes and hot glued on a wooden craft star.
Guardians of the Galaxy DVD and Blu-Ray are for sale at Walmart in the electronics department. They have a pretty big display since the movie just released to DVD.

There are several exclusive extras that come with the DVD including the  Character O-sleeve, exclusive music zinepack, a 64 page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal.
There’s also a pretty big section in the toy department dedicated to Guardians of the Galaxy toys.
Since my son’s birthday was last week and the 12″ Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy action figures were on sale, I caved and bought him one. That’s the benefit of having a December birthday.
With Christmas around the corner, the movie and a GOTG toy would make a nice gift since you get an instant $5 Walmart gift card when you purchase a Groot, Drax or Rocket Raccoon figure for Disney Infinity 2.0. (good 12/7 – 12/13)

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and plan to grab Guardians of the Galaxy for your next movie night.
We have a ton of movie nights and are always looking for ideas. Leave a comment telling me your favorite family friendly movie.

    1. My kids loved them and I'm glad I can reuse them too. You should make one. This is a really easy project.
