How to Prepare for the Special Needs of Guest

I love having people over to the house and I try to make them feel as comfortable as possible when they’re here. Whenever guest are coming I try to anticipate any special needs they may have. I’ve partnered with Sam’s Club to share tips on how to prepare for guest with special needs.

When I have an older relative or a relative with special needs coming in town, I make sure to pick up things they use. My mother in law taught me almost everything I know about homemaking and especially how to care for people.

1. Aside from just preparing a guest room, prep the guest bath as well.

I make sure it’s stocked if we’re having guest for the day or overnight. Of course I replenishing toilet paper, hand soap and hand towels. If I’m having guest with small children, I place a small stool in the guest bath, extra diapers and wipes.

2. Go the extra mile.

When older relatives are visiting, I stock the bathroom with Depend® and Poise® products they use. I buy the big pack of of Depend® Fit-Flex® Underwear at Sam’s Club. That way I have some to put in the bathroom and some to put in my storage pantry for future visits.

Before my guests arrive, I discreetly place Depend and Poise products under the sink.

When they arrive, I usually let them know they can find extra personal items under the sink. I don’t wait for them to ask questions that may be embarrassing, but try to anticipate their needs.

    3. Teach the entire family to help and support.

My kids have grown up being taught to treat others like they want to be treated and they all pitch in to help. We’ve had incidences where accidents have occurred and my children were super mature and helpful which made me proud. Of all my children, my daughter has a caregivers heart and is right there helping me make our guest feel welcome and accepted no matter what.

      • I have a guest over who uses them and was so happy I had them available. It's so nice to meet people's need in that way.
