Do it Yourself, Home

How to Make a Super Simple Homemade Floor Cleaner

Germaine and I have officially updated all of the floors in our 2000+ square foot home. When we bought our home, the only option the builder offered was carpet and linoleum. We went with a dark gray carpet in all of the spaces except the foyer, kitchen, bathrooms and unfinished laundry room.

After starting to see our children experiencing allergy symptoms we knew we would take it out and replace it with a flooring option that would hold dirt, dander and allergens.

We ended up installing a water resistant planks in the family room, master bedroom and master bath. In the rooms upstairs we have a mix of hardwood and tile flooring which we installed ourselves as well.

Since the updates, I fallen back in love with my home and love how good the look when they are clean. I rotate between a store bought floor cleaner and my super simple homemade floor cleaner to keep them clean. The recipe for the cleaner is perfect for most hard surfaces because it includes ingredients to break down the dirt barrier on surfaces, degrease and disinfect.

To make it all I do is mix a few ingredients I typically have on hand. I listed what I use below and also created a video so you can see exactly what I do.

How to Make a Homemade Floor Cleaner

Instructions: Mix the following together in a small bucket or spray bottle.

  1. Hot water
  2. Vinegar
  3. Rubbing Alcohol
  4. Non moisturizing Dish soap
  5. Essential Oil (optional)

You can pour the floor cleaner into a labeled spray bottles like the one I use to spritz the area to be cleaned and then scrub using a mop. I use either my self ringing mop or Swiffer. You can use the floor cleaner from the bucket with a microfiber cloth like I did after making the video for you down below.

I like to deep clean my floors with a cloth and the solution in a bucket when I haven’t cleaned them in a while. That way I can get down and scrub areas that may have embedded dirt. If I’m just doing a weekly floor cleaning, I use the spray bottle and Swiffer with a reusable pad.
