How to Create the Perfect Bantu Knots #APassionForHairI asked on my Instagram page whether I should leave my gray hair alone or color it and you guys unanimously voted for color. I’m in 100% agreement with you and am going to show you how I color my hair at home to make my hair match my youthful face.

I’m coloring my hair using Schwarzkopf Keratin Color Anti-Age Hair Color in Espresso, with 100% gray coverage.

The kit comes with a pre-treatment designed to help achieve even color results. That’s good for me since I’m using a different brand than the last time I died my hair and I want my previously dyed hair to blend well with my freshly dyed hair.

After I dye my hair I’ll be styling it into bantu knots.

To start I apply the pre-treatment to my hair from root to tip.

Next, I mix the #1 and #2 and apply it to my hair starting at the roots. Most of my gray hair is around my hairline and down the center of my scalp. When I wear my hair down toward my face it’s barely even visible, but when I want to wear it pulled back like the style I’m doing today, my gray hair is obvious. While I understand we’re all going to have gray hair someday, I’m not ready for that day to be today. When my face starts to look wrinkled, I’ll be ready, but not today. After I worked the dye into my roots and smoothed it onto the tips of my hair, I let it sit for twenty minutes then rinsed.

The final step in the dying process was to condition my hair with the Keratin Care Complex conditioner.

For the style, I started with freshly washed and dried hair parted into six sections. I applied styling putty to each section and put each section into a ponytail.

Next, I attached some Jamaican Maliy hair to each ponytail with a rubber band and wrapped it around itself to create a Bantu knot. Using the extension hair gives my Bantu knots a fuller look than I can achieve with my own hair.

Once all of the knots were secure, I embellished the Bantu knots using gold elastic thread.

This was my first experience using Schwarzkopf Keratin Color Anti-Age Hair Color and I love how soft my hair still felt after the process.

There are a ton of Schwarzkopf Hair Colors on the health and beauty section of Walmart. I can’t wait to share a new color and hairstyle with you in a few months.

  1. I love bantu knots. I wore them in my hair for about a year (I did not add any hair to mine). We call it chiney bump in Jamaica, this is something that parents do whenever they wash girls hair. They oil and chiney bump the hair then pull it out when they are ready to go out.

  2. I'm starting to see more and more grey hairs too and I'm always on the fence about whether or not to go get it coloured. I'm happy I have this option!
