This super simple Football Inspired Checker Board tutorial will get your non game day loving kiddos excited about game day.
Today I’ll show you a fun craft I made especially for my daughter who loves candy but not football. My Football Inspired DIY Checker Board is unique because it’s played with candy. Incorporating candy is a fun way to get non football fans involved at game time.
To create the board I used a few simple crafts items and all of the orange and green colored candies from a bag of small candies.
This project took me about an hour start to finish using the instructions below.
- brown felt 9″x12″
- paint pen (white)
- permanent marker (black)
- washi tape (green & white)
- paint canvas (8×10)
- no-sew velcro dots for fabric
- ruler
- pencil
- scissors
- football party confetti
- hot glue gun
When it comes to homegating, I love incorporating something new and fun for the entire family. Sometimes I cook a fun dish my husband loves or plan a fun activity.
Taking the classic game of checkers and introducing candy into the mix adds a colorful and yummy surprise.
This is adorable!! Takes "playing with your food" to a whole new level 🙂
You did an amazing job. It looks very much like the real deal.
Oh my gosh, this is such a creative idea! Usually I think I'd be prone to eating the game pieces before the game is over but this board is so cool it would be a shame not to finish the game. 🙂
These are precious! I love everything about them! I am definitely going to try to make these!
The board design is awesome! Great job! I love how you did the game piece pouches too.
This is such a creative idea. And finally an occasion where kids will have an acceptable reason to play with their food.
Ha! So true. ?
I definitely like the rules of that game–winner gets to eat the opponents Skittles!! I am so not into football and I doubt this would get me to like it–but checkers is a fun game!!
I'm not into either but agree checkers is a fun way to get involved on game day.
Oh my goodness you are a master in DIY loving the idea, easy and colorful. Perfect when having the kids coming to watch the game.
Thank you Adriana! Older kids could even make their own if they're not into football, but like playing checkers.
