Trying a DIY bathroom makeover or any home renovation can be intimidating the first few times, but the more projects you tackle the easier it gets. I promise. This go-round Germaine and are tackling our half bath which became our main bath when we joined our two downstairs bedrooms to make it one large master suite. We collaborated with Tarkett and were able to try their Tarkett Transcend™ SureSet™. After looking through the samples they sent we decided to go with a vinyl plank flooring in Champion Oak Burren. It’s a pretty soft grey color and one we’ve wanted in our home for a while now.
We’re sharing the before and after photos of the project today, but we’ve shared tons of behind the scenes video of the project here for you to refer to. When we started this project we had a hole in the ceiling from a leak, awful mustard yellow paint on the walls and the storage situation was a floating shelf project gone wrong.
We started the project by taking down the shelves then patching and repainting the walls. Next, we began installing these beautiful Tarkett Transcend™ SureSet™ flooring in Champion Oak Burren. We chose these for the width of the planks, the color and the fact that the planks are waterproof. We wanted the project to take no more than three days to complete so we chose a wider plank for quicker installation. These Tarkett Transcend™ SureSet™ planks have a pre-applied adhesive backing that keeps each plank in place but also allows them to be taken up and repositioned making them perfect for DIY’ers like us.
Our bathroom is on the lower level of our home and partially underground so it gets very moist in here. We use mostly waterproof materials on this level of the house for that reason. So when we sat down to plan this home improvement we knew we wanted flooring that’s waterproof and sustainable for these conditions. When we renovated the downstairs main areas we installed water resistant sheetrock and flooring to ensure the space could withstand the wear and tear of the environment. Those concerns were not overlooked when we updated our bathroom.
One concern we initially had regarding vinyl, laminate flooring are issues with scuffs, scratches, stains, and wear. We did a lot of research before determining if Tarkett Transcend™ SureSet™ flooring was right for us. We learned they’re ranked #1 in vinyl flooring worldwide and that their Trionite® technology stands up daily life.

Once we got the flooring installed we replaced the sink, lighting and storage to make the space more functional. Here are some photos of our DIY bathroom makeover before and after!

What a difference right? Germaine and I truly felt like we had a new bathroom when we finished this project. Everything was organized, bright and functioned better. The bathroom went from dated to updated in just a few days.
The little touches like the hook beside the sink for our hand towel just made our day. Germaine was against it at right saying he didn’t want the hand towel so close to the toilet, but once it was in he loved it.
The details in the flooring, fixtures and even the accessories brought this whole project together for us. We are truly in love with our new space and feel like it came together perfectly.
Next projects on the agenda are our kid’s bathroom and our shed. We hope you’ll follow along by subscribing to our blog using the link below.
