After School Homework Station

I’ve been all kinds of excited about sharing our after school homework station with you. You know how much I like for things to be organized so having this space for my kids was a must. Over the past two school years, the kids have been plopping down wherever to do homework on the laptops and tablets, but my son was having an issue when it ca time to type up essays and such. His screen was way to small for him to be typing and staring at while trying to complete longer project…hence the after school homework station.

The jewel of our home work station is the new HP Snow White All-in-One Touch Screen Desk Top. Did she just say, “touch screen?”. Yes I did. This is one of the newest HP computers so if you look for it stores this week and don’t see it, you can order it online and have it shipped to your home. The new HP has been redesigned and is ready to use straight from the box….no kidding! I thought for sure they hadn’t sent everything I needed when I didn’t see a processor, but the processor is built into the computer screen. The alone is a huge space saver. Not having to store that bulky machinery leaves more space at our home work station for my kids school supplies. This computer meets all of our needs in the amount of storage it provides for their school and gaming activities. Plus it’s great quality, stylish and super affordable.

Before we jump into the details of our home work station, be warned…there are tons of yummy pictures. I want to give you all of the details you need to create a space like this for your home.

To start our space we used this random wall in our family room. It’s in a crazy location and really serves no purpose in the space. Until now, this is what it looked like and the space was never used.

The first thing I knew I wanted at our homework station was a board where we could place notes for one another. I used a black poster board, washi tape, sticky notes and a calendar to create one for our homework station. Each of the kids have space on there where we can leave sticky note messages for one another.

The next thing I did was grab some office supplies I already had and spray painted them white. Using a single color for your office supplies makes the space look cohesive.

Next, I used wrapping paper to line the inside of the desk drawer to prevent stains. Pens, broken pencil lead and sharpener scraps can easily stain a drawer over time. Having the paper in there makes it easier to clean. Just replace the paper as needed.

Once the wrapping paper was in and the storage containers were dry, I filled them with supplies my kids use. In the draw to the right of the computer is where I store pens, sticky pads and folders. We’re all right handed so it just makes sense. I want to top of the desk to be relatively clear so I only have a mail sorter with three dividers in it and a picture frame. I did this because when the kids aren’t using this area, I don’t want it to look like a cluttered mess.

The three file folder on the desk will be labeled with each of my children’s names. We’ll use them to store weekly school paperwork or documents that need to be signed and returned to school.

On the left side of the desk is where I set up the computer. I love how sleek and pretty this thing is. The name, HP Snow White, describes it well although with my kids sticky fingers, it probably won’t stay white for long. It only has three major parts to it, the screen, keyboard and mouse. Everything about this computer is super stream line and petite.

Just above the computer screen is where I hung our home work command center. Each month I’ll replace the calendar and fill in any important dates so we can see them at a glance. To be completely transparent, our board fell off the wall after I took these pictures. I used double sided tape to hang it and that didn’t work. I also used duct tape, but took it down because I don’t want to ruin the paint. If you have a better idea, let me know it the comments, because right now the board is on the desk until I figure something else out.
Here are a few more pictures of the finished homework station. Make sure you leave me a comment below telling me your favorite part about the space.

    • Bianca, I really put my style stamp on the design. It's for my kids but I definitely wanted to keep this space for myself. Now I'm thinking about updating my office and maybe getting the HP laptop for that space.

  10. Your homework station is so stylish and gorgeous! I love how think and sleek your new computer is!

    • Thank you! Now that it's all set up I feel prepared for my kids heading back to school. The small keyboard and mouse takes up less space and gives the kids room for thier books. And the touch screen is so functional, vivid and large. I'm hoping this makes homework easier to complete.

Let's continue to conversation in the comment section.
