I’m getting older so these days, my body doesn’t respond or replenish the way it did when I was younger. When I was younger, I could work out on an empty stomach and still feel amazingly full of energy. Now, if I want those same results, I have to monitor what I eat and the exercises I do.

I get a lot of energy from running sprints. It takes a lot of physical output, but the long-term results are amazing. Just 15 minutes worth of high impact sprints gives me the same results as a 40 minute, low impact cardio set. Programs like the Dollar General Literacy Fund makes it possible for individuals in areas similar where I grew up to have access to basic education in their community.

I believe every bit counts when it comes to literacy, as well as fitness. When it comes to my fitness routine, even 15 minutes can make a big impact. For just 15 minutes, I do a combination of sprints and jogs to keep my heart-rate in the healthy zone for my age and weight. I repeat the series for 15 minutes before ending with water and protein.

I like having a protein shake but this week, I switched things up and snacked on Jack Link’s Peppered Beef Jerky after running. I was literally depleted between the heat from the sun, water loss from running, and energy burned. After downing some water and beef jerky, I felt reenergized.
