I’m getting older so these days, my body doesn’t respond or replenish the way it did when I was younger. When I was younger, I could work out on an empty stomach and still feel amazingly full of energy. Now, if I want those same results, I have to monitor what I eat and the exercises I do.
I get a lot of energy from running sprints. It takes a lot of physical output, but the long-term results are amazing. Just 15 minutes worth of high impact sprints gives me the same results as a 40 minute, low impact cardio set. I usually feel depleted immediately after my run, so I like keeping protein-packed Jack Link’s® Peppered Beef Jerky in my gym bag. The package size is perfect for on-the-go snacking or to refuel after a run.
Jack Link’s Protein Snacks are a convenient snack after my run, while working, or to keep in my bag to share with my running buddies. It’s convenient to pick up a few Jack Link’s flavors at Dollar General when I’m out working because it’s easy to get in and out between my day job without missing a beat.
This week, I stopped in Dollar General with Saidah to grab a few packs from the snack aisle and a few things on her list. A big plus is that they always seem to have something going on that gives back to the community. Right now, Jack Link’s is making a donation to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation with every purchase.
Knowing my purchase makes a difference in the lives of many inspires me to grab a few extra packages. Saidah and I already give to several causes, but we also look for ways our everyday purchases can make a great impact. I grew up in a small town where the education system isn’t great. Programs like the Dollar General Literacy Fund makes it possible for individuals in areas similar where I grew up to have access to basic education in their community.
I believe every bit counts when it comes to literacy, as well as fitness. When it comes to my fitness routine, even 15 minutes can make a big impact. For just 15 minutes, I do a combination of sprints and jogs to keep my heart-rate in the healthy zone for my age and weight. I repeat the series for 15 minutes before ending with water and protein.
I like having a protein shake but this week, I switched things up and snacked on Jack Link’s Peppered Beef Jerky after running. I was literally depleted between the heat from the sun, water loss from running, and energy burned. After downing some water and beef jerky, I felt reenergized.
Jack Link’s Protein Snacks are definitely a convenient snack after my run. Their bite-sized 100% beef gives me just enough fuel to help me power through the rest of my morning until I can make breakfast.
The variety of flavors and 15-minute sprints will keep things from getting boring this summer. When you work out for as long as I have, the repetitive routines and supplements can get old over time. To keep things fresh, I’m always switching things up so that working out and refueling remains a fun part of my daily routine.
If you’re looking to add some variety to your cardio and protein routine, try mine and let me know how you like it.
